Description: Clay object composed of a single shank, rectangular in
section, which bents upwards, almost in U shape. Its width is reduced gradually
from one end to another. On the wider end there is a suspension hole (diameter
0.6 cm). Its surface is smoothed and bears traces of fire. It had broken in two
pieces, on the expected weak stress point, i.e. at the inner curve. On the
curved part of the “hook”, on its inner surface and at the edges of its narrow sides,
4 very fine incisions are discerned, almost parallel to each other: these are
possibly traces of threads used in reciprocating motion (?).

Comments: The conventionally called, due to their shape, “hooks”,
comprise typical finds of the Early Bronze Age. Although they morphologically
differ from the so-called “anchor-shaped” objects, they are often classified in
the same group, possibly because both appear to have been manufactured for the
same general purpose: something light was hanging from them, but also they were
hanging from something else. Thus, although their use remains enigmatic, they
are assumed to have been used as auxiliary tools in textile works (Elster 2003,
242–245).
